Center for Medical Immunology
Immune response is the various physiological phenomena of defense against external infectious pathogens and immune cells have pivotal roles.
The immune system is composed of early innate immune response (non-specific) and latter acquired immune response (specific) against the infection.
Immunology research in the 21st century tend to create high-value pharmaceutical products (recombinant protein and antibody drugs), which help treat immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory colitis, and psoriatic dermititis. Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology (IBST), Konkuk University founded the Center for Medical Immunology (CMI) with the first director, professor Kim, Soohyun and 8 professional immunologists in 2009 in order to establish the world class medical immunology research center.
Basic immunologists who study innate immunity, acquired immunity, and cytokine immunology as well as clinical immunologists who deal with infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases perform creative and well-organized research in the medical immunology center.
